Stock Market Info :: Stock Market Facts
So many people today lack solid stock market facts when they begin investing. Often times, people simply start investing without any knowledge of the company or companies they are investing in, either because a friend or their stock broker told them to.
They also invest heavily in mutual funds because they have been taught that diversifying their portfolio is the best way to achieve wealth.
Why do you think mutual funds are so popular today? Mutual funds are often times praised as great inventions, and as wise investment decisions. However, they are really often times merely a cover up for somebody who doesn’t have much knowledge on investing.
Don’t get me wrong-mutual funds have performed well in the past, and they certainly can be profitable. If you don’t know much about the market and don’t plan on learning a whole lot, mutual finds are certainly the way to go. You should never risk a concentrated portfolio with something you have little knowledge about.
However, if you don’t know a lot about stock market facts and how to research companies, mutual funds are generally safe because they tend to diversify their holdings and therefore often times mirror the market as a whole.
When the market is going up, as is the general trend, that is very good. The market has averaged increasing 12% annually, and most years holding in mutual funds are relatively profitable.
However, when the market crashes as it sometimes does, having your money tied up in a mutual fund can be devastating. Many people have literally lost entire fortunes because of one market crash.
Often times, these crashes are brought about by uneducated investors panicking over any piece of bad news, even if it has nothing to do with the company they are invested in.
The bottom line: make it a point to learn as much as you can about the market and how to read a campaigns financial attempt. If you posses these skill’s you will do well investing in the market.
If not, don’t ever concentrate your portfolio on a few stocks you know nothing about; and don’t ever believe the next hot stock tip. Do your research, educate yourself on the relevant stock market facts for your company of interest, and hang on for the ride!
